My son Corbb received a new kidney on July 4th. As many of you know, his first transplant last year failed after five days. A generous family member was the donor, and we are forever grateful to her. This donor was unknown to us as it was a patient who did not have brain activity. While Corbb’s surgery was successful he still undergoes testing in the next few weeks, and all indications are positive this time. Our family wants to thank all of you who sent us messages throughout this year. We often routinely hear about donation and signing up on our drivers’ licenses giving permission. We don’t as often think about those who need hearts, bones, kidneys, livers, etc. While protocol does not permit us to know the person or family of Corbb’s donor, I sent a note to them through his surgeon at Mayo. Not sure whether it will reach the family or not, but I share it with you to thank all living donors and families of donors in the last moments of life.
